Sta. Cristina International Summer Cello Academy 2017

A natural “consequence” of the activities already developed from 2013 by the Sta. Cristina International Music Centre/Violoncellos of Sta. Cristina, the International Summer Cello Academy is a unique opportunity for young cellists from all over the world to participate in an intense learning experience of the highest level (at both performance and pedagogic levels), with some of the most important cellists and pedagogues of the international scene.

From 2013, Master-classes, Lectures, Pedagogy Courses of international level have been developed by the Sta. Cristina International Music Centre/Violoncellos de Sta. Cristina. An eminent international project in its country of origin, the CIMSC uses as its headquarters the family home and farm of the family Macedo, situated in the Village of Sta. Cristina (town of Sto. Tirso/District of Oporto), about 25 Km from the city of Oporto.

A beautiful, quiet and historic place, it has been the perfect location for intense days of musical learning, reflexion, friendship and music making surrounded by art and Nature.

For this Year’s Summer Academy, the invited teachers are two of the finest cellists and pedagogues of the International Scene. The French Cellist Marc Coppey, one of the most refined International Soloists of our time and Professor at the Conservatoire National Supérior de Paris; The Spanish/Catalan cellist Lluis Claret, with us for the second time and already a legend in the cello musical scene. He is nowadays a faculty member of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston USA.

The permanent faculty is composed by two cellists and pedagogues of the highest level. Maria Macedo, Portuguese Cellist living in Spain for the past 40 years, and a living legend of the cello pedagogy, and David Cruz, Doctor in Music by Boston University, Professor at the University of Aveiro.

This year’s Academy will be divided into two different periods of intensive work, each of them coinciding with a different guest artist for our international Faculty. Students will be able to register in either one or both of these periods of work. Accepted students will be required an advanced instrumental level.

Although the base of the work will be the individual lessons, students will also have access to lectures, concerts, yoga classes and cello ensemble work. The Second Week of the Summer Academy will be developed in parallel with the Sta. Cristina International Cello Festival (July 15-19). Students participating will be guaranteed to have the highest level of teaching, and good conditions for their individual work and practise.
